Senator Nia H. Gill Enters Race

Senator Nia H. Gill will race for charity in the New Jersey Legislators Challenge harness race at The Meadowlands Racetrack on June 12.

“A lot of people think politicians have no horse sense – I'm going to prove them wrong,” Senator Gill said.

Senator Gill will be competing for the first time, but is scheduled to make several practice runs next week. The senator said being in New Jersey politics for 10 years, however, does give her some experience.

“I've been close to the rear end of a horse many times,” Gill said. “I've been in Trenton for more than a decade.”

Senator Gill will compete against Assembly members Nellie Pou, Linda Stender and Charlotte Vandervalk. A separate race will be held for male legislators includng – Senator Paul Sarlo and Assemblymen Gordon Johnson, Tony Impreveduto and John Wisniewski.

The races are sponsored by The Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey which will donate $1,250 to charities of the Legislators choice. Each winner will get to donate $500 to their chosen charity with the other contestants donating $250

The races will be held Saturday, June 12 between 6:45 p.m. and 7:15 p.m. before the start of the regular races that night.
